Frequently asked questions

How long does speech therapy take to work?

It depends on what you're working on. Late talkers often see real progress in 3–6 months. Speech sound therapy can take 6–12 months. Stuttering programs run 1–2 years. We'll give you a realistic timeline at the assessment.

How often will we see the speech pathologist?

Most children we see weekly or fortnightly. Some intensive blocks (4–6 weeks of close work) followed by review periods. Frequency matches goals and funding.

Do you take referrals from GPs or paediatricians?

Yes, but we don't require one. Self-referrals from parents are welcome.

Will Thriving Kids services cost anything?

Thriving Kids is funded by federal and state governments. Most services are free at the point of access for eligible families. We'll always tell you upfront if any add-on service has a cost.
